Welcome to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum. Step back in time and relive the golden age of railroads and the people who built and operated them. The Heart of Dixie Railroad, located just south of Birmingham in Calera, is the official railroad museum of the state of Alabama. The museum features operating standard gauge trains, two restored depots, an indoor collection of railroad artifacts and memorabilia, and an outdoor collection of railroad cars, locomotives, and cabooses.
Museum
The museum is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and operation of historically significant railway equipment. All exhibits, operating railroads, and educational programs function as both a unique means of tourism and recreation, and a way to preserve the rich history of Alabama and our nation.

Events
The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum hosts many special events throughout the year.
North Pole Express
The North Pole Express is by far the most popular event hosted at the museum. Visitors can enjoy a scenic ride through Shelby County’s woods as elves visit the train and bring hot cocoa and cookies to patrons. Guests can expect a special visit from the big guy himself, Santa Clause and Mrs. Clause. Tickets for this event go on sale in early fall and tend to go quickly, so be sure to follow their Facebook page to stay in the loop.
Trackside Tastings at Ozan Winery
Visitors start at the Railroad Museum and enjoy a scenic ride to Ozan Winery. At Ozan’s Tuscan-inspired setting, guests can enjoy a wine or whiskey tasting next to the train tracks. For certain events you may enjoy brunch or a sampling of cheese and fruit.
Pumpkin Junction
Pumpkin Junction is a fall themed event garnered towards families. After a train ride, Ozan winery is transformed into a pumpkin patch with a wide selection of pumpkins, fall inflatable bounce houses, wine tasting, and crafts.
The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum is the perfect blend of history and fun. Any railroad enthusiast or fun-seeker will enjoy a tour of the grounds and a train ride!
