Oak Mountain State Park

Alabama's largest park, Oak Mountain boasts almost 12,000 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms. Don't even think quantity over quality though, Runner's World Magazine named the running trails at Oak Mountain as one of "The Crown Jewels," listing them among the Top 25 Best Trail Runs in America. The park offers classic camp cabins, an amazing golf course, a pro shop with a delicious snack bar, tent and RV camping spots, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, mountain bike trails, backpacking, and horseback riding and equestrian campground facilities. With the largest area and variety of outdoor recreational pursuits, Oak Mountain is sure to provide excitement for every member of the family! Oak Mountain State Park’s mountain bike trails are truly one-in-a-million. With roots, rocks, and rolling hills, there are trails for beginners to the most seasoned of riders.
Veteran's Park Trail on Valleydale
- 4800 Valleydale Road
The Veterans Park on Valleydale trail is approximately 3.1 miles in length and is easily accessible from nearby schools, Jefferson State Community College and large residential developments. The course consisting of both a soft gravel mixture and hard surface serves as host to numerous local, regional and national cross country events with a 5k and 8K course. The Great American Cross Country Race brings top runners from across the country to compete on the course. Trail Grounds Also included on the grounds are four beach volleyball courts, two pavilions, and two children’s playgrounds. Some portions of the trail are handicap accessible. Also, located on the site is a large monument to recognize and pay tribute to U.S. Veterans.
Cahaba River Park

Cahaba River Park is a true natural escape for outdoor enthusiasts. With over 1,800 acres of scenic forest, flowing water, and well-designed amenities, this expansive park offers endless ways to explore, unwind, and connect with nature. Locate where the Cahaba River and Shades Creek meet, just west of Helena, the park’s North Sector features miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, canoe and kayak launches, fishing spots, and an outdoor shower to rinse off after a day of adventure. Swim in the river when water levels are safe, or enjoy a quiet picnic under one of the pavilions. Restrooms and walking trails make it easy to stay comfortable as you take in the beauty of Alabama’s longest free-flowing river. Cahaba River Park is also home to the iconic Cahaba Lilies, a rare breed of spider-lily that is only found in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Beautiful pockets of the lilies bloom in the early summer months at Cahaba River Park. Whether you’re paddling, pedaling, or simply soaking in the sights, Cahaba River Park is a must-visit destination for outdoor lovers—from sunrise to sunset.
