Today, we’re excited to share an exclusive interview with Jason Pruitt, the owner of Oversoul Brewing, located in the heart of Helena. There are always exciting things to do in Shelby County. Join us on a journey of hops, dreams, and the incredible stories that make Oversoul Brewing a must-visit destination.
Jason Pruitt opens up about his roots, the birth of Oversoul Brewing, and why this place is the beating heart of the Shelby County adventure scene.
Brewing Up Dreams
Jason’s journey into the world of craft beer began around 2006, a time when craft beer was still a novelty in Alabama. With only a handful of breweries around, he and his brother decided to take matters into their own hands. Armed with home-brewing equipment and the desire to explore different beer flavors, they embarked on their brewing adventure.
Starting with makeshift setups in their backyard and garage, Jason and his brother honed their brewing skills, eventually finding their way into the warm confines of their garage, where they could brew comfortably year-round. These humble beginnings were the spark that ignited Oversoul Brewing’s flame.
The Oversoul Journey
As the craft beer scene began to evolve, small-batch breweries like Oversoul started popping up, adding a unique flavor to the industry. Jason’s passion and desire to contribute to this culture led him to Helena. He knew that the charming old town was the perfect place to bring Oversoul Brewing to life.
Finding the right location wasn’t easy, but their determination paid off when they stumbled upon an opportunity in 2017. They converted a former space into a cozy brewery right in the heart of Old Town Helena, and in 2019, during Helena’s Buck Creek festival, Oversoul Brewing officially opened its doors, offering a selection of four tantalizing beers.
Brewing Up More Than Beer
Oversoul Brewing isn’t just about crafting beer; it’s about crafting experiences. What sets them apart is their ever-evolving lineup of unique brews. With six flagship beers on tap and the addition of two seltzers, they cater to a wide range of palates.
What’s even more exciting is their willingness to experiment. Jason’s team loves pushing boundaries and surprising their customers. Their small batch system allows them to play with flavors, resulting in concoctions like the mouthwatering caramel bread pudding white stout and the tantalizing coffee stout brewed with bourbon barrel-aged coffee from a local joint, Daysol Coffee Lab.
A Shelby County Destination for All Ages
Oversoul Brewing creates a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Families, furry friends, and kids are all welcome here. With a courtyard that opens onto the park, it’s a perfect spot for families to relax while enjoying a cold brew.
Old Town Helena itself is an entertainment district, allowing visitors to roam the streets with their beverages in approved plastic cups, making it an ideal place to enjoy concerts and festivals that the brewery often hosts.
