Hoover is located primarily in Jefferson County, but a portion is in Northern Shelby County. This area includes the Riverchase area near the Hoover Met, the Valleydale area near Pelham, and further east to the Greystone area off Highway 280. It is a suburban community offering everything you need in one place.
It may surprise visitors to discover the abundance of parks, golf courses, playgrounds, and hiking trails that dot the city map. Hoover’s incredible city planning has allowed for much greenery throughout the city. One popular spot is Veterans Park. The park is located near Spain Park High School and offers 3 miles of running trails, multiple playgrounds, and even volleyball courts. The feature of the park is a veterans’ memorial to view.
If you’re looking for a more challenging outdoor activity, Hoover Archery Park opened in 2019. This recreational facility provides everyone who has a hunting, fishing, or WWA license a safe space to practice their shot. During the warmer months, archery is outdoors. Once it cools off in November, the targets move to an indoor facility for year-round use. While archery might initially seem intimidating, this unique activity is safe and fun for all ages. Children under 16 and seniors get in for free. Several events are held at the range, including the Alabama Senior Olympics Archery Competition and beginner, intermediate, and advanced archery classes. The range is home to its very own club, the Hoover Archery Team.

Aside from outdoor activities, this area of Shelby County has plenty to do. Check out High Point Climbing & Fitness. This 35,000-square-foot facility offers a kid’s zone, rope climbing, bouldering, yoga, cardio, weight training, and even a party room for birthdays.
Take the kids to Skates280 for some retro fun. Roller skating has gained popularity again, and this is the perfect spot to brush up on your skating skills. They also host birthday parties.
Catch a movie at the AMC Classic at Lee Branch. It is a nationwide movie theater, so they are sure to have all the latest new releases. You can order snacks ahead of time through the app, and tickets are 30% off before 4:00 PM every day!
Painting With A Twist is a fun group night-out activity. You can pick your favorite painting from their upcoming events and book your spot. Open studio hours are available from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Thursdays.
The Village at Lee Branch is where to shop in the Shelby County portion of Hoover. It is off Highway 280 near the Highway 119 intersection. You will find big-box retail stores, local boutiques, restaurants, and even things to do. There is a local farmer’s market every Saturday during the warmer months. Some of the larger stores you will find include Hobby Lobby, Publix, DICK’S Sporting Goods, and Walgreens.
