The Hillsboro Trail currently contains approximately two miles of multi-use trail that connects residential communities, schools, and commercial areas. The trail is paved and constructed on an old rail bed with four tunnels and bridges making it ideal for walking, jogging and cycling.

Many scenic and recreational opportunities are found along the trail with overlooks and viewing areas. The tunnels and bridges provide safe passages beneath and above local roadways offering safe routes for both adults and children. Old Town Helena and Helena Elementary School are accessed on its northern end via sidewalks, while Helena High School and Helena Middle School are found on its southern end.

A trailhead exists east of the intersection of Hwy 52 W and Hillsboro Parkway.

It is not sanctioned as a VolksMarch Trail.
