Summer is finally here, and it’s time to get out and enjoy everything that Shelby County, AL has to offer! From a summer kickoff at the American Village to lunch at some of the best restaurants around, Shelby County has no shortage of items that belong on your must-do itinerary. It’s time to get out and find all the Shelby County events to do this summer!

Must-Do Itinerary For Summer In Shelby County 

The warm weather has arrived, and those long summer days give you plenty of time to get out and find the best things to do in Shelby County. Whether you prefer the warm sunshine outdoors or you like to stay cool indoors, there is something on this list for you to enjoy. Here are the things that belong on your must-do itinerary this summer.

Get Outside

There are so many things to do outdoors in Shelby County that this list couldn’t possibly hold them all. However, here are a couple of your must-do activities for this summer:

  • Oak Mountain State Park– Oak Mountain State Park is a great spot for summer fun, especially if you love fishing! They have three lakes filled with fish, open all year round. You can even use electric trolling motors and go fishing in a canoe. If you don’t have your own boat, you can rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, tandem kayaks, or pedal boats from the Marina on Terrace Drive. And when you’re ready to relax, head over to one of the two sandy beaches on Terrace Drive or Beaver Lake. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the summer sun!
  • Splash Pad At Melrose Park – Summer is a great time for water activities, and this Shelby County splash pad is a great way to have some fun in the sun! Head to Melrose Park in Chelsea for some fun water activities and stay cool in the summer heat. 
  • Blue Water Park – Dive into summer fun at Blue Water Park, where you can enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, and scuba diving adventures!

Enjoy Summer Treats

Summer is known as a time to enjoy some great food and delicious treats, and here are a couple of things you have to try this summer: 

  • Eat Some Ice Cream – Nothing beats the summer heat quite like a delicious ice cream cone, and you will find plenty of places to do just that in Shelby County. Try Freezy’s Creamery in Helena or Creations Galore and Moore in Calera. You can’t go wrong either way, and your taste buds will definitely thank you!
  • Dine Al Fresco – Summer is the perfect time to dine outdoors, especially in the evening when the temperatures start to cool down. Many local restaurants offer outdoor seating and offer seasonal menu selections that highlight the perfect summer food choices. Give Cat-N-Bird Winery a try where you can enjoy the outdoors while savoring some small bites and wines.

Stay Cool Indoors

If getting outside in the summer heat is not your thing, don’t worry! Shelby County offers plenty of things to do inside where you can stay nice and cool. Here are some indoor activities that belong on your itinerary.

  • Go Ice Skating – It might be summertime outside, but you can stay nice and cool when you go ice skating at the Pelham Civic Complex. Rent a pair of skates and get on the ice for a fun day zipping around the rink.
  • Shop Til You Drop – If shopping is more your style, you can shop until your heart’s content in Shelby County. Visit the Village at Lee Branch, Colonial Promenade, Brook Highland Plaza, or one of the many other shopping centers in the area.
  • Explore Your Creative Side – Explore the vibrant arts scene this summer by visiting the EBSCO Gallery at the Shelby County Arts Council, getting hands-on at Creative Vibes Pottery Studio in Helena, and unleashing your creativity at Party Art Studio in Pelham!
