Washington's Birthday Celebration at American Village

In a day of family fun, patriotic music and birthday cake, American Village will celebrate the 292nd birthday of the Father of our Country, George Washington. Visitors will enjoy family-friendly activities with costumed historical interpreters from 10 to 4, and can share birthday cake with George Washington at noon. This year’s celebration includes a musical tribute at 2pm, featuring the Cahaba Chamber Chorale and the Ramsay High School Choral Department. The choirs will present Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom, based on the writings of Thomas Jefferson. Other selections will include Somewhere from West Side Story, Zion’s Walls, and Lift Every Voice and Sing. The concert, entitled Made in the USA, is designed to highlight the ideals of what it means to be an American, engaging the spirit of our Founders and their aspirations for our Nation – Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The choral selections are all by American composers from across the generations.

American Village Festival of Tulips

Spring 2023 will mark the 7th annual Festival of Tulips, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever! Stroll through a field of 100,000 tulips, in all the colors of the rainbow. Visitors may purchase both flower and bulb for $2. Bring your family and friends and don’t forget your camera. The tulips and the American Village’s beautiful campus create a one-of-a-kind backdrop for photos. More than sixty different varieties of tulips were planted at the American Village in early December 2022. There are early, mid-season and late blooming varieties, so the tulip season lasts as long as possible. A typical season is 3-4 weeks. Tulips are a cool-weather flower, not bothered by cold or ice. But turn up the heat and they quickly fade. So don’t wait! The American Village will be open Monday-Saturday 10-4, and Sunday 12-4 during the Festival of Tulips (weather permitting). Enter the front gate and follow the signs to the parking lot directly beside the tulip field.
