As Alabama’s largest park, Oak Mountain provides 9,940 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms. Runner’s World Magazine recently named the running trails at Oak Mountain as one of “The Crown Jewels,” listing them among the Top 25 Best Trail Runs in America. The park offers vacation cottages, golf, pro shop with snack bar, improved camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, mountain bike trails, backpacking, a demonstration farm and horseback riding and equestrian campground facilities. With the largest area and variety of outdoor recreational pursuits, Oak Mountain is sure to provide excitement for every member of the family!

For the archery park Alabamians ages 16 to 64 must have a hunting license, Wildlife Management Area license, or Wildlife Heritage license in order to shoot. For non-residents, an annual Wildlife Management Area license or non-resident hunting license is required.
![]() | A co-ed group mountain bike ride at Oak Mountain State Park on Thursday nights. Intermediate to advanced skill levels are recommended due to night riding conditions, pace and mileage. The ride departs from the South Trailhead parking lot at 5:30 p.m. and lasts from 2-2.5 hours. Lights are strongly recommended. |
![]() | Alabama’s first Wakeboard Cable Park is now open through September at Oak Mountain State Park. Located at Beaver Lake, the lower fishing lake, the cable park operates from 10 a.m. to dark. Prices vary, but patrons can purchase a season pass, two- hour or four-hour pass. Also available to rent are helmets, vests, wakeboards, knee boards and much more. For more information call 620-2528. Oak Mountain State Park has 100 Miles of trails for all ages and skill levels including:
- 27 miles of equestrian trails exclusively for horses (no foot traffic or mountain bikes except for segments of a few multi-use trails)
- 32 miles of hiking trails exclusively for foot traffic (no horses or mountain bikes) 73 total miles are available for hiking
- 42 miles of mountain bike trails (the only OMSP trails that allow mountain bikes – however foot traffic is allowed – no horses)
